The 2025 Texas Summit on Black Maternal Health was a powerful gathering of advocates, healthcare professionals, community leaders, and changemakers dedicated to addressing the maternal health crisis impacting Black women and birthing people in Texas.

Held in the DFW area, the Summit brought together voices from across the state to share insights, amplify solutions, and inspire actionable change.

The Reality

  • Texas ranks last in the nation for access to prenatal care.

  • Black women are twice as likely to die from pregnancy-related causes as white women—and four times more likely compared to Hispanic women.

  • An estimated 80% of maternal deaths are preventable.

  • Addressing health disparities through community support, education, and advocacy leads to better outcomes for all families.

  • Access to trained lactation consultants can increase breastfeeding initiation rates, which play a vital role in maternal and infant health.
